Hypnotherapy . What is Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy?
“Contrary to popular belief, hypnosis is not a state of deep sleep. It does involve the induction of a trance-like condition, but when in it, the patient is actually in an enhanced state of awareness… In this state, the conscious mind is suppressed and the subconscious mind is revealed. The therapist is able to suggest ideas, concepts and lifestyle adaptations to the patient, the seeds of which become firmly planted…. The practice of promoting healing or positive development in any way is known as hypnotherapy. ...hypnotherapy aims to re-programme patterns of behaviour within the mind, enabling irrational fears, phobias, negative thoughts and suppressed emotions to be overcome”.
Dr Hilary Jones (1988) 'Doctor, What's the Alternative?' .Hodder and Stoughton, London
Hypnotherapy is a scientifically acknowledged therapeutic discipline utilizing hypnotic ‘trance’ states. When conducted by a qualified hypnotherapist, dramatic changes can be achieved in a relatively short period of time.
Behavioural change with NLP. What is Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)?
NLP is a communication model that describes how the language (linguistics) we use, affects our physiological ‘state’ (neurology). The language we use to describe our world essentially defines our reality. Within our mind, we hold a mental map of the ‘territory’ (external world) one of the NLP presuppositions: “The map is not the territory,” suggests that our inner mental experiences: sights, sounds, sensations, smell, etc. are not the external reality!
In response to the movies we play in the theatre of our mind, messages and commands to and from our nervous system, about what to feel and how to respond; our internal, perceived reality is created from which our beliefs, values and behaviour emerge. If the map is not representative of the territory, then we are likely to make poor judgments along the path of life, causing resistance (stress) and leading to suffering (often noticed in the form of fears and Phobias, low confidence or poor self-esteem and addictions). As a model of human behaviour, NLP describes the strategies, processes and patterns (programmes) that govern our mind-body system.
NLP tools and strategies are the most effective in changing and updating the internal map through communication and talk therapy, so that we can experience more resourceful states of mind-and-body in response to external stimuli.

Complementary therapies vary greatly although generally share a common view of health and healing. Complementary therapies emphasize 'wellness'. It is believed that wellness comes from a balance between the body, the mind and the external environment. Illness or dis-ease occurs when there is an ‘imbalance’ between these factors.
In contrast to conventional ‘allopathic’ medicine in which treatment is generally of a specific part of the body that is ‘problematic’; complementary therapies consider the whole person, their lifestyle and quality of life. This is the ‘holistic’ approach. Each person is treated as a unique individual. Complementary therapies demand that you take an active role in your treatment, in the form of ‘lifestyle’ changes (i.e. diet, exercise and positive thinking).
The key to long- term success is the commitment and motivation to embrace the changes.
